Nomadism and Mobile Ways of Life in the Americas The international conference “Nomadism and
Mobile Ways of Life in the Americas” will be held in Vienna, February
15-17, 2012, at the Wiener Urania. It offers a variety of interesting panels,
stimulating discussions, and exhibition areas, and will include keynote
lectures from distinguished international experts. The conference opening
will take place on February 14, 2012. Delegates will be encouraged to bring
their families and friends. The conference gathers together scholars, students,
and other interested people from all over the world. We received applications
from (junior) researchers and scientists from different (sub- and
cross-)disciplines (African Studies, African American Studies, American
Studies, Anthropology, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Cultural Studies,
Displacement Studies, Economics, Environmental Studies, Gender Studies,
Geography, History, Holocaust Studies, Human Rights Studies, Inter-American
Studies, Jewish and Hebrew Studies, Law, Literature, Medicine Studies,
Migration Studies, Minority Studies, Native American Studies, Natural
Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Philosophy, Political Science,
Psychology, Romance Studies, Russian and East European Studies, Slavery
Studies, Sociology, Violence and Genocide Studies, Women, Gender and Family
Studies) who come from resp. are working in Argentina, Armenia, Austria,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador,
France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jamaica, Madagascar, Mexico, Panama, Peru,
Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK,
Uruguay, the USA, and Venezuela. The conference aims at serving as a platform for the
presentation of current or recent research resp. dissertation projects as
well as for the international exchange between scholars with a regional focus
on North/Central/South America, Caribbean and/or the Atlantic World concerned
with the phenomena of nomads, nomadism and mobile ways of life in a broader
sense. Last but not least, it aims to promote the building of academic
networks, and stimulate intercultural polylogues and the mobility between the
