CONFERENCE GRANTS A small
number of travel grants to attend the doctoral seminar as well as the 2014
Vienna conference have been made available through the generosity of the
following institutions: >> Austrian Students’
Union Klagenfurt/Celovec >> Austrian
Students’ Union Vienna Brauerei
Salm Bräu >> Center for
Inter-American Studies, University of Graz >> Cultural
Affairs Department, City of Vienna Embassy of
the Federal Republic of Germany Embassy of
the Netherlands Embassy of
the Principality of Liechtenstein Embassy of
the Republic of Argentina Embassy of
the Swiss Federation >>
Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Vienna >> Faculty of Historical and
Cultural Studies, University of Vienna These
grants will contribute significantly towards travel expenses. They are
intended mainly to support PhD students, early career researchers and others
who, for acceptable reasons, are unable to raise sufficient funds to attend
the conference. However, priority will be given to applicants who wish to
present a paper and who are living outside of Europe and in countries with
strongly challenged economies. The grants
will be awarded according to the quality of the applicant’s paper proposal
and the degree of financial need. The award of a grant carries with the
expectation that the holder will fully attend the conference (in terms of not
missing sessions). The expectation regarding grants to attend the doctoral
seminar is that PhD students will fully attend both the seminar and the
conference. Only
complete applications submitted by the 31
December 2013 conference paper submission deadline will be considered and
candidates must arrange an official proof that her/his university/research
institution does not cover the sums to be acquired in the grant applied for.
Grants will be disbursed solely on the last day of the conference, and upon
provision of payment receipts. Only in exceptional cases money to cover air
fares partially will change hands in advance of the conference. The expenses
claims can relate only to attendance at the conference (18-22 September 2014)
and/or the doctoral seminar (17-18 September 2014) respectively. Applicants
for grants will be informed by the end
of April 2014 about the decision of the grants committee regarding their
application. As we received many more applications than can be funded at this
stage, we hope to be able to offer some further grants later (contingent on
finding additional funding) and will keep on file all unsuccessful
applications from the first round. For
