ACCOMMODATION The following
two hotels are the main conference hotels: HOTEL PRINZ EUGEN Wiedner
Gürtel 14 1040 Wien Phone:
+43-(0)1-505-17-41 http://www.hotelprinzeugen.at/en/index.html Hotel Prinz Eugen lies opposite the newly constructed Hauptbahnhof
(central railway station) and just 1 1/2 blocks west of the two Baroque
Belvedere Palaces, nowadays home of one of the finest art collections Vienna
has to offer, as well as beautiful parks, including the Botanical Gardens
(part of the University of Vienna). Once residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy,
the Belvedere Palaces played an important role as a place of refuge for royal
family members (especially Marie Thérèse Charlotte, the only surviving child
of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette) and the art treasuries of the Tyrolean
castle of Ambras during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars. By the
time of the Congress of Vienna the Lower Belvedere in its function as a
museum attracted a large number of visitors. Also close by is the Südtiroler
Platz (South Tyrol Square) with a statue of Andreas Hofer commemorating
Hofer’s role as leader of an armed rebellion against Napoleon and the
Austrian Military History Museum with a permanent exhibition on the
Napoleonic Wars until the Congress of Vienna. View of
