ACCOMMODATION

The following two hotels are the main conference hotels:

HOTEL PRINZ EUGEN

Wiedner Gürtel 14

1040 Wien

Phone: +43-(0)1-505-17-41

http://www.hotelprinzeugen.at/en/index.html

Hotel Prinz Eugen lies opposite the newly constructed Hauptbahnhof (central railway station) and just 1 1/2 blocks west of the two Baroque Belvedere Palaces, nowadays home of one of the finest art collections Vienna has to offer, as well as beautiful parks, including the Botanical Gardens (part of the University of Vienna). Once residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Belvedere Palaces played an important role as a place of refuge for royal family members (especially Marie Thérèse Charlotte, the only surviving child of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette) and the art treasuries of the Tyrolean castle of Ambras during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars. By the time of the Congress of Vienna the Lower Belvedere in its function as a museum attracted a large number of visitors. Also close by is the Südtiroler Platz (South Tyrol Square) with a statue of Andreas Hofer commemorating Hofer’s role as leader of an armed rebellion against Napoleon and the Austrian Military History Museum with a permanent exhibition on the Napoleonic Wars until the Congress of Vienna.

Hotel Prinz Eugen is located in Vienna’s 4th municipal district which formed, together with parts of the 3rd district on the other side of Belvedere Castle, the diplomatic quarter after the Congress of Vienna. Up to the present day you will find not only most of the embassies as well as some residences in the surroundings of Hotel Prinz Eugen, but also the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna claiming to be the oldest school of its kind in the world. Several restaurants serving traditional Viennese and international cuisine, cafés, bars, supermarkets, shops, pharmacies (one is next door), banks, hair dressers, and the shopping boulevard Favoritenstraße are nearby.

To reach the venues, simply take the tramway line D from QUARTIER BELVEDERE station across the street from Hotel Prinz Eugen and get off at SCHOTTENTOR station for the university main building, respectively at DR. KARL RENNER RING station for the opening venue (Bundeskanzleramt). The total journey, including walking time, will take less than 25 minutes to the university and less than 20 minutes to the Bundeskanzleramt. This will bring you to the venues without the need to transfer and it will also be a kind of beautiful sightseeing driving along the Belvedere and the famous Ringstraße.
